Toronto-St. Paul's Education Debate

Building on the strong Liberal record

Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Tonight I participated in the first debate of the campaign, hosted by the Toronto District School Board.

As a proud graduate of Brown Jr Public School, here in St. Paul’s, I have experienced the positive results of a strong public education system first hand.

I am proud of Ontario’s Liberal government’s record on education. Ontario has one of the best education systems in the world. We have increased funding for education every single year we have been in office. Funding for school boards in St. Paul’s has increased by $1.7 billion -- an increase of 57% since 2003.

The high school graduation rate in Ontario has increased to 86.5%, in St. Paul’s the high school graduation rate is 89%. That is an 18% increase from 68% when the Liberals formed government in 2003.

Implementing full day kindergarten for 4 & 5 year olds saves families across the province $1 billion in child care costs and is giving young learners the best head start in their education.

I am running to be MPP for Toronto-St. Paul’s to build on that record and to make all of my teachers from Brown proud.

I would like to thank everyone who came out to watch the debate, Louise Brown, writer, and former Education Reporter for the Toronto Star who served as moderator and my opponents who joined me.
